PowerPoint is my favorite of all the Microsoft Office Applications. I use PowerPoint at least once a week whether it's creating a PowerPoint presentation, creating word art, or editing images to then use in other apps such as Word for personal, school, or work use. I love editing images to make them seem like seamless additions to a document. I used to believe that in order to edit images you needed a fancy image editing software such as Photoshop, but after playing around with the PowerPoint features I learned that many of the same tools used in PhotoShop can be accessed while using PowerPoint. My favorite of these tools is the remove background one, which helps to take an image with a square background that I may have found doing a Google Image search, to an image with no background at all.
As you can see in the above image, I was able to take a thank you card, and using PowerPoint's remove background feature I was able to remove the stripped background and the words Thank You to create a new image of just the sleeping bear on the moon. I find that by removing backgrounds, I can often make my images fit more seamlessly into my documents with a more professional look and feel. Using PowerPoint I can also manipulate the image in other ways by creating more of something using copy, paste, crop, and remove background features. For instance, I may want to add more stars to my sleepy bear image.
Overall I find PowerPoint to be a very important tool for me as an educator in creating the majority of the handouts, presentations, and documents regarding my classroom. I love the accessibility of PowerPoint, because nearly every institution has a computer with PowerPoint access, and I love the ease of use.
